from comments:
There are currently no plans to make this plugin compatible with 2017.2 as far as I know. The JetBrains maintained one is not going to compatible with the community version. You can use https://www.jetbrains.com/go/ if you want as a much better alternative than this plugin.

If you want to have this plugin working in IntelliJ community 2017.2, please send a PR. Thank you.

They fact that they have open sourced the older plugin and will accept PR's is above and beyond, IMO.

dlsniper:

You can use the Go IDE created by them: https://www.jetbrains.com/go/ Additionally, you can use the Go plugin in any other JetBrains IDE from the JetBrains family (that's not a Community edition). You can read more about this here as well: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/go/faq.html

Before seeing this thread, I've also added the part I left out, I don't have the time or resources to continue working on the plugin (and there's little sense in doing so since the IDE is so far ahead of the community plugin). I don't want to discourage any potential contributors, but if you look at the contributor numbers, I believe you'll find it that there aren't many that are willing to do the work for it, unfortunately.

Hope it helps :)

dragonfax:

I understand Gogland is more than just the go plugin. But its built on top of Intelli J too, right?

Will some of the Gogland code be available to install in other Jebrains IDE from the JetBrains Family? Much like the plugin has been, and the other Jetbrains IDE's tend to do (to some capacity)

dlsniper:

As mentioned in the FAQ, yes, it's possible to do it since the end of March, see https://blog.jetbrains.com/go/2017/03/22/gogland-eap-7-faster-completion-package-rename-2017-1-platform-features-plugin-and-more/

dragonfax:

Sweet. installing.

dlsniper:

You can also use the IDE if you want, it's tailored to Go projects.

dragonfax:

Yeah, but it is going to go commercial. I don't want to get used to or spend time learning something I'm eventually going to have to lose access to. I already paid for rubymine.

mzupzup:

I like the light-weightedness of editors and have found the go toolchain to work quite well even on the commandline.

Could someone who uses an IDE (instead of an editor like vim/emacs/visual studio code) for Go explain to me the perceived benefits of their preference?
