<p>We created the package basex [<a href="https://github.com/dineshappavoo/basex" rel="nofollow">https://github.com/dineshappavoo/basex</a>] to generate youtube like ID's from big numbers few months back. And it is being used in few production systems. This package uses 62 [a-z , A-Z, 0-9] digits for encoding and decoding. You can take a look at the readme file. </p>
